Mike Gaburo - Chief Executive Officer

Mike Gaburo was named Chief Executive Officer of Brightwell Payments in November, 2015.  He has a 20-year track record of expanding and scaling technology-enabled businesses. With his expertise in leading software-as-a-service (SaaS) businesses, he has built strong teams that have driven sustained growth in revenue, margin, EBITDA, and stock price.  

Prior to his leadership role at Brightwell, Gaburo served as COO of Paycor Inc., a $100MM+ provider of payroll, human resources and workforce management SaaS to 30,000+ businesses.  As COO, he led Paycor to a 4x increase in revenue and an 8x gain in EBITDA.  He also served as Vice President of Corporate Development and Vice President of the Cleanroom Resources Division, at Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS) - a $4BN+ global provider of business services.  

Mike graduated magna cum laude from Colgate University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  He earned his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, where he was named a Baker Scholar.

Scot Brands - Chief Financial Officer

Scot Brands as Chief Financial Officer of Brightwell Payments, is an accomplished corporate financial executive with proven success in exercising sound strategy to accelerate development stage companies to grow and prosper.

As Chief Financial Officer and in similar senior financial executive leadership roles, Brands led growing companies like WorldCom, Inc. (now Verizon), Gryphon Investors (a private equity firm with over $900 million under management), and McLeod, Inc. (a publicly-traded regional telephone company), from start-up phase to roughly $30 million in revenue prior to entity restructuring and sales.

Scot has additional expertise in start-up entities, corporate legal management, human resources, pricing, and financial planning, is a Georgia Licensed CPA, and Georgia Licensed Attorney.

Larry Hipp - Chief Technology Officer

Larry Hipp is the Chief Technology Officer at Brightwell Payments, with more than 14 years of experience in the technology and product development field.

He has a proven track record of delivering expert-crafted digital products that deliver comprehensive value. Unlike many technologists, Larry is uniquely able to connect all the critical elements of digital strategy and performance expertise to develop a product that excels in user experience, functional software, and digital marketing combined.

As an experienced engineer, consultant, and sales manager, Larry is as comfortable leading client strategy as he is at leading a late-night hackathon.

Hal Ramakers - EVP Global Solutions

Hal Ramakers as Executive Vice President of Global Solutions at Brightwell. He has over 25 years’ experience in business development, bringing global solutions to overcome complex business issues with small and Fortune 500 companies alike. He specializes in identifying market needs and driving internal product solutions that generate cost savings for clients, great experiences for end-users, and predictable revenues for the company. 

Prior to joining Brightwell Payments, Ramakers served as the Senior Vice President of Technical Operations for LandAmerica Credit Services. While at LandAmerica, Ramakers trailblazed business development, product development, product management and technical operations for the $60M company.

Hal loves living in the “country” away from the hustle and bustle, with his wife Brenda of 25 years, where he enjoys landscaping, spending time in nature, and serving in his community church.

Lynn Cherry - EVP & Chief Compliance Officer

Lynn Cherry is Executive Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for Brightwell. She has over 12 years of prepaid experience, including an extensive background in payroll cards focused on BSA/AML and OFAC compliance in addition to Regulation E.

Prior to joining Brightwell Payments, Cherry served as the VP of Compliance and Risk Management for Skylight Financial, a subsidiary of NetSpend Corporation. Before her leadership role for Compliance at Skylight, Cherry filled several operational roles in information security, product, settlement and reconciliation, and marketing, and started her professional financial services career at Wachovia Bank, now Wells Fargo Bank.

Cherry earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Shorter University. She is a graduate of the American Bankers Association (ABA) Graduate School of Compliance Risk Management, and is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM).

John Markendorf - SVP Client Services and Implementations

John Markendorf, Senior Vice President of Client Services and Implementations, cultivated his leadership expertise in over 10 years experience working in prepaid and payments, with deep roots in customer service. He draws on this expertise to proactively manage Brightwell’s Support, Implementations, and Account Management teams.
 
In August of 2007, Markendorf started his career in operations at West Suburban Bank in Chicago Illinois in their prepaid division (Prepaid Solutions, USA) after graduating college. There, he moved up through the ranks in client support, and relocated to Atlanta in 2012, following the acquisition of Prepaid Solutions - now Brightwell Payments).
 
John played NCAA Division I Men’s Volleyball and was offered to play professionally in Greece however, he chose to pursue his Bachelor of Science in Finance from Quincy University.  He still plays sand volleyball with his wife Deedee and future volleyball star, 1-year-old daughter, Madilyn.

Mark Robertshaw - SVP Sales and Commercial 

Mark Robertshaw is the Senior Vice President of Sales and Commercial at Brightwell Payments. With over 18 years’ leadership experience in commercial, key account management, and sales in maritime and offshore business, he spearheads new market opportunities in these sectors.
 
Prior to Brightwell, Mark cultivated strong business-to-business relationships resulting in notably sustained financial and client satisfaction growth in the shipping and maritime industries, as Managing Director of Bibby Western Group, Managing Director of Faststream Recruitment Asia, and Global Account Director for Hapag-Lloyd AG.
 
He is an actively contributing member as Chairman of the expanding maritime cluster, Isle of Man Shipping Association, and also as a non-executive director to Stream Marine – a UK maritime and offshore training provider.
 
Mark holds a Master’s Degree in International Shipping from Plymouth University.

Jenn Boutwell - SVP Marketing

Jenn Boutwell is Senior Vice President of Marketing at Brightwell Payments.  She offers over 20 years’ experience driving brand awareness, strategic growth and product visibility for leading companies in the fin-tech software, web and prepaid industries.
 
In her marketing career, she gained valuable experience in public relations, navigating budgets, and increasing sales growth and analytics to support marketing campaign strategies. 
 
Jenn earned her Bachelor’s degree from Cal State East Bay and grew up in the San Francisco Bay area. She loves spending quality time with her family, and staying fit with outdoor activities, tennis, and running.
 

Keagan Russo - SVP of Strategy and Business Development

Keagan Russo is Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at Brightwell Payments. With over 15 years of financial services and strategy experience, he is focused on identifying growth opportunities and ways to deliver exceptional value to customers, clients, and shareholders.
 
Prior to joining Brightwell, Keagan was Vice President of Marketing and Strategy at CAN Capital, a business lending fin-tech company. He also strengthened his expertise and leadership in strategy and business development in previous roles with McKinsey & Co., Bank of America, and MBNA Corp.
 
Keagan grew up on the coast of Maine, and seizes every opportunity to head north with his family to enjoy Maine’s rocky shores in the summertime. He earned his Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School, and his Bachelor of Arts from Colby College.
